- <p> With the KGB undergoing intensive glasnost therapy, some
- American officials were expecting a windfall of revelations
- about corruption and betrayal from disillusioned KGB operatives
- stranded in the U.S. Guess again. Instead of defecting or
- cooking up tell-all book proposals, the Soviet spymasters go on
- meeting pigeons on shadowy corners and scheming to pry U.S.
- secrets out of American diplomats and military personnel. Until
- they know who's running things back home, says a senior U.S.
- official, the secret agents seem determined to go on "doing
- their thing, just like they always have."
